This guide will help you replace the ignition coils in your 1999-2006 (and 2007 Classic models) GM truck or SUV V8. This can be a really simple process. You may just be leaning over the hood a little bit.

We recommend to do one ignition coil at a time. This helps to keep things from getting mixed up.
Tools needed:
- 10mm Socket
- Ratchet
- Extension
The 8 ignition coils are exposed and easy to access. An easy way to find them is to follow the spark plug wires to each ignition coils.
- Carefully remove the spark plug wire, and connector. Make sure to be careful as these can break easily.
- Remove the 2 10mm bolts holding the coil down, and remove the coil
- Install the new ignition coil. the 2 10mm bolts.
- Plug the connector in, and put the spark plug wire back on the coil.
You are done!
These trucks & SUVs use two different type of ignition coils. Melco, and Delphi The easiest way to tell which kind of coil it uses is to open the hood and take a look at the coils. If you are still not sure, the Delphi coil (round style) has the number "19005218" stamped on the metal body of the coil, and the Melco (Square style) has the number 12573190 stamped on the metal body.
